DuTrieux Consulting is an IT Executive consulting firm that is based in California's Central Valley.  Thank you in advance for learning more about us. I'm Dave Truax, the firms principal consultant and owner. For background on the experience I bring to the table, please read on...

I am a successful IT Executive who loves to engage people, projects and policy. I started my career in 1980's working within the US Navy Oceanographic systems, among the most technical and analytically challenging uses of technology I've yet encountered.  From the Navy, I moved into my first business venture, building and selling PC clones in the Central Valley.  Those "Pre-Microsoft Windows" years are good memories, as successful software products were still judged on their merits - not by the market share of operating systems and manipulation of the industry.

Selling my stake in that business, I moved on to other

area's and was the forming partner of a network integration firm, InfiNet Systems. Starting with $500 working capital, we built InfiNet Systems into a $10 million dollar firm with 40 employees.  During these years, I built my technical skills earning engineering certifications from Novell (CNE, CNE3, CNE4, CNE5 and CNI), Microsoft (MCT, MCP, MCSE) as well as hardware platforms (CompTIA A+, Compaq, HP, IBM, Sun).  I was recruited by Novell to serve on the Education Advisory Board, where I helped to develop the curriculum and testing for the Engineering program.  I served on similar Advisory Board positions for Compaq and Microsoft.

After InfiNet was purchased by a venture capital firm, I was asked to create, and become the General Manager of a nationwide consulting practice. Until the dot-com crash in 2000, we had much success and I had developed my technical skills into a set of solid consulting dewestern-citiesliverables that could be repeated.  I had found my calling - Technical and Management Consulting. I have since consulted all over the United States as a technology representative for major property owners across the United States including TIAA-CREFF, Boston Properties, and Shorenstein. While in this capacity, I was part of a four-member team responsible for determining the network applications and technologies needed for the largest planned smart zone in North America - the San Diego Padres Ballpark District.

Although much of my career has been spent in the private sector, I spent 5 years working in a municipality (Deputy CIO, City of Modesto). That position made me fall in love with local government.  In addition to being such a pure form of democracy, the ability to improve the daily lives of the Citizens through technology can be a continuous thrill. In that position, I succeeded across the spectrum - from Franchise negotiation and INET deployment, wireless (4.9, 2.4, 2.5) public safety systems (Police and Fire), VoIP, helpdesk, eGov, Portals and most other areas that are key to making government cost effective.
Now I am back to what I love - consulting.  DuTrieux Consulting is a firm that will tell it straight - be it pleasant or unpleasant news.  These are very difficult times, leaders are being exposed to hard realities - no longer can mistakes be papered over with money. Long term vendor relationships are being tested. Cloud computing and other moves into out sourcing are questioning the very role that Information Technology has in our companies and governments.  PC’s, servers and other hardware are becoming appliances, discarded when broken - thus further reducing the need for traditional technician roles.  Routers, switches and firewalls are becoming easier to configure, just in time for they latest group of high school graduates who have grown up with TCP/IP on their game consoles and cell phones. These developments have changed the face of IT careers, none more though than that of the CIO.  No longer guardians of the electronic magic house, they are faced with slashed budgets and increased scrutiny - all in the shadow of “out sourcing boogieman”.  Creating value, protecting assets and providing leadership to a skeptical boardroom are concepts that need to be quickly embraced.
We believe that our suite of services, based around the concept of offense and defense are unique, and can prepare any organization for the challenges of 2009.
